On a recent Kayak Fishing trip I decided to beach the kayak on an island and attempt to net some bait. I was walking around in about knee deep very colored water when I heard the unmistakable CRUNCH of stepping on an oyster bed. Had I not been wearing my water shoes my feet would surely have been shredded on the sharp edges of the oysters.
Water Shoes are one of the most important safety items you can buy if you plan on getting out of your boat anywhere other than a safe launch area. These shoes can be bought at any outdoors store or online for around $30.00 and up, but their value is far more than that.
When selecting water shoes, make sure they have good solid sole that will not be torn by rocks or oysters. They should also provide drainage and fit snuggly. The pair I bought are black and gray, but they can get hot when sitting in the sun for a few hours (nothing a dunk in the water for a minute cant fix).
