FLATS SLAM! Redfish, Snook & Trout
I met 3 friends around 6:30am at a boat launch on the North Indian River Lagoon. We had our boats in the water and launched about 10 minutes before sunrise and we were heading to a few spots that we have had success in the past.
Tony and Carl were both able to hook into some slot sized trout on the way to our favorite hole.
Upon arrival to the target destination I was throwing a Zara Spook topwater. It was quickly exploded on by a 24″ Snook.
Right after my Snook, Tony landed an under slot Redfish, and soon after all action on topwater lures died.
I switched over to a chartreuse colored paddle tail lure with a glass bead rattle in it. During my second drift past a place that looked very “fishy” I hooked into the best fish of the day. A 26.5″ Redfish, and two drifts later I caught a 19″ Redfish.
Mike was able to get an under slot sized Redfish in the feeder canals around the same time.
On the long paddle back to the boat launch I was throwing a paddle tail in hopes of catching a trout and I was able to land a few just under slot. While they were small, they did complete the slam for me!
