The other day I went out for a day of fishing near Wilbur Bay (just south of Daytona Beach FL). Mid way through the day fishing slowed down and I decided to beach the kayak and have a sandwich and a drink. While beach I figured that would be the perfect time to snap a picture of my kayak rigged the way I have it today.
As you can see, I have 3 poles, a landing net, a cooler and a milk crate visible.
Rod Mounts
The two rear mounts are flush mounted. I have my Shimano Stardic spinning reel in one and my Penn International Bait caster in the other. In the forward Scotty Mount I have my Abu Garcia Ambassador bait caster. The Abu and Shimano I use for artificials and the Penn I use for live bait
Cooler
The cooler is just a standard cooler that can be picked up from any store. It is small enough to not alter the center of gravity and large enough to hold a 25” redfish. I fill it halfway up with ice, the other half with water and a sandwich or two
Crate
The crate Is a Sterilite Milk Crate that I bought from WalMart. I have add 2 pvc rod holder to it, that currently hold a landing net and a top water lure (the pvc keeps the lure handy, but doesn’t allow the hooks to grab a hold of anything.
In the crate I store my PDF when not needed, my anchor, tackle box, sunscreen, but spray, rope and a few other miscellaneous items. The crate is bungee corded to the kayak.
Not Visible
In the cockpit I have mounted a knife holder as well as a holder for a pair of pliers. There is a center waterproof hatch that I have not yet found a use for.
In the Hatch
In the front hatch I have a water proof case that houses my wallet, fishing license and keys. There is also a cast net for catching live bait, a bait bucket, and a back up rod and reel combo. The bow rope used to tie off when launching and retreating the kayak is also stored here.
In the next few months I am sure the configuration will change at least 3-4 times! It IS never ending!
