One of the best places in the world to catch Redfish while kayak fishing is the famous Mosquito Lagoon. It is known world wide as a top fishery for Redfish and a kayak is the best way to find them.
Speckled Sea Trout are found through out Mosquito Lagoon all year. Some of the largest fish in the world are caught here and they are often caught from a kayak.
Snook are widely rated as one of the top game fish that can be caught inshore. During the winter months they are plentiful around the lagoon and a great challenge for kayak anglers.
Another exciting fish to catch from a kayak during the warmer months is the Tarpon. Found in the summer, Tarpon can be one of the greatest challenges a kayak angler can face.

Where is Mosquito Lagoon
Mosquito lagoon is located on the east coast of Central Florida and it stretches from near ponce inlet to Titusville. Mosquito Lagoon is connected to the Indian River via Haulover Canal, and this is all part of the Inter-Coastal Waterway. It is part of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Kennedy Space Center is located on the lagoon as well.

What Fish are Found in the Lagoon
Mosquito Lagoon is a prime habitat for almost all Florida inshore fish. The vast grass flats and mangrove shorelines attract many types of bait fish and forage in tun, attracting many types of predators. The primary game fish caught in Mosquito Lagoon are:
- Redfish (the lagoon is world famous for its population of redfish)
- Speckled Trout (second only to the redfish for its popularity)
- Black Drum
- Snook
- Flounder
- Tarpon (highly seasonal)
Other game fish can be found in the lagoon, such as bluefish and mangrove snapper, but the above mentioned are the most popular to fish for from a kayak.
