As fall begins to arrive in Florida, the temperatures begin to become more comfortable for those who spend time fishing on the waters. As cold fronts begin to approach the area and tides become slightly higher fish become more active making the fall one of the best times to kayak fish in Florida.
Mullet Run
In the fall, Florida is famous for its massive mullet run. Mullet of all sizes begin to migrate and can be found all around the state is massive numbers. The large amount of mullet in the waters lead to more game fish inshore and near shore waters. Matching the hatch when using lures works very well this time of year.
Cooler Waters
The cooler air temperatures result in slowly cooling water. The cooler water can hold more oxygen increasing the activity level of the fish that live in it. The added bonus when Kayak Fishing is the proximity to the cooler water keeps the kayaker cooler as well.
Brown Tide Recedes
Durring the summer many of Floridas famous shallow water flats turn brown with an algae bloom. This algae starts to receed in the fall and makes sight fishing these areas much easier. Mosquito Lagoon and the Banana River are two of the most popular shallow water flats in the country, and they are VERY productive in the fall.
